HI Everyone
I have only had my horse for 9 mths he is a 5 yr old warmblood and he has developed a couple of sarcoids one of which is just above he's eye! I have had treatment form the vet (which involved different creams) but the one on he's eye has come back and it hasn't even touched the other! i am more concerned about the one over he's eye, the sarcoid itself is'nt very big but i know they can grow very quickly. It is also causing a bald area around the sarcoid i'm worried about this getting worse.
Does anyone have any suggestions to what i can do to help this problem as i can fore see lots of vets bills which i just can't afford!
Thanks
k

Mine has sarcoids and he had the liverpool cream and he had to have that twice for it to work but the only thing to get rid of them is by the vet.
Also buy a fly rug it reduces the risk of them getting spread

vets is really the only way to deal with them especially when in the eye area, depending on what kind of sarcoid it is ones in the eye area sometimes require radiotherapy. i take it you have tried liverpool cream. and if it is a fibroblastic sarcoid they can sometimes put lamb rings aroung them and the die at the root and fall off (my boy had one in his groin area and this is what we did and it worked)

is he not covered for them on the insurance?

Hi, I had an arab mare that was racing that developed a sarcoid above her eye, and i started talking to the vet etc, it sounded all far to pricey, so i put her in foal...

With great success, she loved just stepping back so much that it went, by the time the foal was born she was normal!!! She is now in work and fine, no signs of any more.

The other horse who has them is an owners horse, a big 17.3hh warmblood, gelding, he got them very badly in the inside of his hind legs.
At the time i was eventing him, we used a trailer, which he didnt load too great,,,
Weve now changed to a lorry which he loads fine and the sarcoids have gone!!!!!! Before this i had to tie them off...

So i think most are related to stress, is there anything you are doing with your horse that he dosent seem to keen on????

I had one under the eye that was a patch of about 50p. Once it looked similar to a wart. It was treated with Liverpool Cream and was horrendous at first and I wished I had left it well alone as it was more cosmetic than anything but now there is nothing, not even a tiny mark and the hair has all grown back. It was originally caused by a rub off the fly mask.

Why do you have a mobile number up????

I started a post a while ago on the sarcoid subject, I have a new horse with one on his side (tummy area) I had loads of good advice, most people say talk to your vet re Liverpool cream which I will if the Thuja cream & tablets doesn't work.

I have been using it for a couple of weeks now, the sarcoids got a lot worse at first, it seemed as if they were 'pushing' out, at the moment they have gone - but I will wait and see if they come back.

A question for Pixxie - after banding how long did the sarcoid take to drop off? Has it grown back? O.k. so there were two questions. I thought that interference - either accidental or intentional could lead to them growing back bigger.

I would be wary of trying different things. My old geldings previous owner applied Carmerossa to one on his leg and it multiplied within a year to treble the original size it did remove on on his neck but then the leg one became a nightmare. I think it really is trial and error but I was told that had the Carmerossa never been applied it would have been able to be banded rather than the huge Liverpool Cream bill we eventually had. Equally have heard good things about other people using it but you unfortunately don't know till you try....

it was the size of a golf ball maybe slightly bigger
it took about 6 weeks to drop off and has not come back at all no thickening of the skin and no small nodules or pin heads forming under the skin and the area is perfectly healthy, thats was 4months ago now and the vet is very pleased with it

ETS: made this post on QR but made to answer horseykitty's question

Hiya!
My mare had sarcoids around her belly and leg area and i used Camrosa ointment. I can't recommend it enough. That was a few years ago now and they have never returned. The ointment draws the sarcoid out of the skin, hence why they initially grow in size however they then turn black and fall off and the hair regrows. The ointment also contains a fly repellent which is useful in the summer months. Their website and advice line is great. Good luck with whatever treatment you decide on.

I did a post on this a few montha ago as my gelding had a sarcoid the size of a 10p on bis muzzle right where his bit rings sat.
After taking in all the advice i decided to go with the vet and the Liverpool cream treatment it took 4 applications ( Mon, Wed, Fri, Mon) for the first week no real change then it just started to vanish, now there is nothing at all and all the hair is perfect.
In all it took 6 weeks to pretty much vanish
I am so happy with the outcome even if it did cost a bit.

Good luck and i hope you manage to get yours sorted.
Teresa
