Should I be seriously considering buying an otherwise lovely horse who had a sarcoid removed from his shoulder last year? As yet I don't know what sort of sarcoid it was - but generally speaking are they scary? I really like the horse!!

Sarcoids can be a nightmare but all cases of them are different. I fell in love with a horse and put in an offer for it but turned out it had them. After speaking with my vet I decided against it. The horse may only have 1 sarcoid for the rest of its life but they can spread and if gets onto the back or girth area the horse won't be able to get ridden. They can be removed by surgery or medication however they can return. Nothing can cure them. It's a gamble. I know some-one that has spent a fortune trying to get rid of them and it hasn't worked. I'm not trying to put you off, just telling you the facts that vet told me. Like I said, it might have had that one, it's been removed and might not come back but there is a high risk that it will come back and possibly more.

If it is 110% perfect for you in every other way then maybe consider it but as proctorclaire said above, they may have only had 1 so far but they can return and spread at any time. If they do re-occur you wouldn't be able to insure the horse against them, and possibly other skin/related conditions so would have to pay for their removal/treatment yourself which isn't cheap (speaking from personal experience). Have a really good think about it before buying and if you do make sure it's reflected in the price- horses with or who have had sarcoids should be worth much less than if they'd never had them.

Any horse can develop a Sarcoid.I got my horse 5 years ago and he now has a Sarcoid and Ive been treating it with Blood Root cream. I cannot claim on insurance for it after Sept this year,so will have the vet out to give him a once over to be sure no more appear.
If the horse is right for you, them possibly. But what if nowone bought a horse with a Saecoid?
Get ur vets opinion.
