Hi, my loan pony has a small sarcoid on the outside corner of his eye and he does tend to catch it and take the top off of it when he rolls. My vet said it is best to leave it but i was wondering if i should try thuja cream (or others), But i dont want to make it worse as i would like to show him in the summer.

Can anyone give me any advice/past experience of any creams available. Please help!

Ask your vet about Acyclovir aka Zovirax, but u can get cheap ones from Tesco and online that are cheaper over the counter... but he maybe able to issue u with a bigger tube as u will need to use for several months. Also try Thuja as it shouldnt intefere. My only concern would be how close the sarcoid is to the eye and not getting cream in it. I think trying Sarc ex or something like in the feed will help as well.
There was a study on Acyclovir usage on sarcoids and all responded to it. Lemme find the link.
 
either leave it alone or get the vet to refer the pony to liverpool for assesment and treatment. sarcoids on eyelids can be tricky and the eyelid is a very sensitive part, and is obvs next to a fairly vital eye! as he is a loan pony i would advise that you involve the owner, as the decision as to what to do should involve her.
 
I have just used thuja successfully but I wouldnt try it near the eye.It made hair fallout so must be quite strong and would possibly damage delicate eye area.:)

I was also concerned about using cream so near his eye. But i will defo speak to my vet and his owner.

Its the outside part (furthest from his eye) which he knocks. It doesnt seem to bother or hurt him tho. x
 
OP the bad news is that most likely your vet will say the only option for sarcoids by the eye is BCG injection. I have just had a quote for this, £900.00 so i hope you/owner has insurance, I havent !! My horse also had one a little further from the eye for which i was given by the vet Efudix which is a human skin cancer cream, £50.00 a tube, this did clear the sarcoid but has left an ugly scar and now this second small lump has come up, so I am waiting to see what happens with it as BCG injection also carries risks.
 
BCG has its risks but carefully administered with owner and vet aware of risks is a treatment which works very wel especially in the eye area. treatment of sarcoids ahould be led by your vet, and not self administered if you want a good outcome.
