my horse has developed a sarcoid on his leg. Vet is going to treat it with Liverpool Cream. Help and support please! I'd love to know of success stories all I can seem to find in the net is stories of great expense and the tings growing back and getting worse. :-( others are saying toothpaste clears them up. Reassurance please.

Used Liverpool Cream for the first time last year, I usually treat them myself but one of the sarcoids was by her ear so I didn't want to mess with it.

The mare in question is extremely sensitive and I was worried that she would not take the treatment well, however I had no problems at all.

The Vet came five times, every four or five days, completely textbook and best of all the mare appeared to have no discomfort or subsequent reactions to the areas treated.

From now on I will defintely use LC to treat any sarcoids, and not an expensive treatment either.

Hope you have a positive experience, fwiw I think you are doing the right thing :)

Mines going into leahurst on Monday to have his lasered off just the one hoping he disent get any more . I couldn't use the Liverpool cream on him he has only just accepts us touching it . And possibly would have to be sedated for the cream to be applied so the laser was the best option for him he is only 16 months old X

Mine had 9 successfully treated with Liverpool cream. Most were on his sheath and belly and it did swell and was sore. He had Bute throughout the course and didn't need sedating.

FWIW lasering is more horrific. Fine if you've got one, but mine had all 9 done as he was in for an op anyway. The holes they leave are deep and open, although don't take long to heal. Unfortunately all his came back which is why we then used Liverpool cream. They've not grown back in 4 years.

You could spend a fortune on things to put on it and make it worse. Why anyone thinks toothpaste can cure a cancer I don't know!

Mine was treated for two sarcoids in 2013 - one under his belly and the other right in front of his sheath. Bute and no sedative - did become a little sensitive but he was always really good to do - one vet saw him flick his tail and legged it out of the stable but the horse wasn't bothered in the least :D
The one under his belly has left a bit of a scar as it was quite large and not much hair has grown back. The following summer it looked a bit sore when the flies were their worst but I am meticulous about fly spray and a fly sheet if it there are really bad and it has never troubled him since.
The insurance paid out with no quibbles - it was a few hundred pounds from memory - but of course he is excluded now.
A friend had sarcoids in a similar area lasered on her horse - it left a big hole which took a long time to heal; the horse also dropped a fair bit of condition which may or may not have been related.

I know one who was treated. It took a few applications, which the vet did, and it was very sore after the latter ones.

The sarcoid went and did not come back.
