I tow a horsebox with a 5 door 4wd, so a total size that is greater than a standard sized car. I am a confident tower and navigator, looking at a map before driving a new route but also using satnav if I have to take a diversion en route. I had one terrifying section of a journey last year where I had visions of starving to death trapped in my car in a sunken lane on Exmoor (or ending up as a novelty item on the local news) - the satnav had directed me down the worlds narrowist and twistiest lane (with 6in high grass growing halfway up it) when I found the main road closed. We managed to squeeze through intact, but it has made me very distrustful of satnav and google maps (which also thought this was an appropriate route) when towing in an area of the country I don't know. Can anyone recommend an appropriate route planner or free app (although I'm a bit of a novice with apps) that would take into account the length of a horsebox and car? I've had a quick google but some of the lorry apps require you to work for a haulage company, some require a fee, and others don't have good reviews. All suggestions very welcome ?
