I’m fairly open minded as to if there’s a man upstairs listening when we ask for things or if it’s the universe, some far off star with big ears, a wise robot, curious little green man or nothing - but whatever there may or may not be, I’ve done lots of asking if it to make sure the tank will be ok today.

We aren’t sure if the logistics as they were all up high and well out of dog reach, and she couldn’t have climbed up to get them and nothing else was on the floor either which is all very odd - but early this morning the tank devoured an entire dark chocolate Easter egg.

We’ve been at the vets all morning with her, and they have been great. She had the sickness jab and looks to have vomited everything up but unfortunately had a very elevated heart rate and collapsed whilst we were at the vets. I thought she had died at one point.

She has been admitted and the last I heard (we left a short while ago) was that she had perked up and bitten them when trying to put a cannula in for fluids (a good sign given her general personality) they will evaluate at four thirty, when they close, as to whether she needs to be moved to out of hours or not. I would think she will be.

Do try keep a small and very bossy corgi in your thoughts today if you have them to spare. I have said very little ‘in person’ to OH or others, but feel guarded in the outcome of this one based on just how poorly she was.

And of course, I am now kicking myself at the fact this happened at all - even though it remains unfathomable as to how she got it down to eat in the first place.

Many years ago two of our labs got upstairs and stole a box of dairy milk, which was destined for an aunt and uncles Christmas present. Their ability to find and steal what they really shouldn't have is beyond phenomenal
Everything crossed for the tank

Fingers firmly crossed. These things can happen in the best organised of households.

The late JRT once snuck upstairs (where he wasn't allowed) and got onto son no 1's bed, and thence somehow reached a chocolate advent calendar from a high wall shelf above the bed. Still no idea how such a diminutive and by then elderly dog managed that feat. Sheer bl00dy mindedness, probably.

It was a vet trip, but he was ok. He eventually died from natural causes at age 15, but how on earth he didn't come to self inflicted grief before then was a puzzle.

Will be sending good luck vibes your way.

Many years ago, I had a GSD and an Afghan Hound. The Shepherd used to hold latches down, the Afghan used his long pointy nose to open the fridge/doors etc.
One day, they had a particularly successful raid: a haunch of venison, a whole roasted turkey, a cooked ham and two large sherry trifles. They then waddled out to the stables and ate a warm bran mash.
I will leave it to your imaginations to reflect upon the outcome.
They lived to tell the tale.
I hope your beloved corgi rallies round. Many positive thoughts and prayers going up and out for you both.

We have had dogs steal and eat rat poison, paracetamol and chocolate covered raisins. They have all lived to tell the tale, goodness knows how. The vet bills have been eye watering!

We have also over the years had dogs eat a Christmas cake, a set of false teeth, various amounts of paper money, shoes, spectacles. I had one Lab bitch who loved eggs, she would steal them off the kitchen dresser, walk around with one in her mouth until challenged, then she would drop the egg onto the hard floor and eat the resulting mess, as if doing me a favour! She also loved butter and ate many a half-poundo_O.

Sometimes, we just have to accept that dogs are very determined to do what we really don't want them to do.

Well she’s still with us which the vet said on the telephone they weren’t necessarily expecting first thing this morning. She is stable and a lot more settled. She’s just been moved to out of hours clinic and we will see what happens next. We managed to say hello between these things happening and she was still not quite right, but that may be through fury of having chicken drumstick front legs from cannulas and pink glittery bandages. So now we wait.

Neither of us can still fathom how she got the egg but I think in future years, Easter will be cancelled

Best wishes from me and a Spaniel that ate 24 alcoholic mince pies and later frog spawn which caused a seizure. Oh and the collie who ate a dry teabag.

I also had a young lab that got into the Christmas decorations and had to have thumb tacks fished out of her mouth. Dogs have a way of finding these things despite best efforts!

Thanks everyone. She isn’t the first we’ve had over the years of the eating bad/weird things, I think it was just apparent very quickly how much she’d eaten for a dog of her size and how unwell she clearly was becoming. I am more optimistic than earlier on and the vet seems more so too, which is a reassurance. I am very pleased with this new vets we moved to last year after issues with our previous/life long vets.

I’m another keeping everything crossed. I hope she keeps on improving overnight and that you manage to get some rest too.

Hopefully she is not called the Tank for nothing. Everything crossed she makes a swift full recovery.
My JRT who weighed 5kg ate a whole chocolate orange. She was forever known as the chocolate orange dog by the vets. After much vomiting and having to have charcoal to eat for 3 days she went on for another 10 years.
They love to try us x
