Well, my aunty Ro came and got me and Tom in this morning, saying she felt sorry for us because it was raining - but Tom is only happy when he can get really really muddy. I'm not fussed as long as I've got something to eat. She said that mum was coming later and we had a lesson. I hate lessons, far too much like hard work. But we do usually get to jump which is my favourite thing (after eating, sleeping, and hunting).

I got a couple of hours kip in my stable, then ate 3 slices of hay before mum arrived at about lunch time. She said I looked scruffy, and that she'd have to do something with my mop of a mane, It's not a mop honest, I like it long, but she insisted on pulling it out! the pile of my mane of the floor was huge when she'd finished! I do like having my neck scratched by the metal comb she uses though, it makes my top lip develop a mind of its own, which makes mum laugh.

After she'd finished I got a good brush and then tacked up. Aunty Ro took Tom out, and there was a long discussion about who should go first, and would I mind if Tom went first, and where we were going when we got back. I got bored and went back to sleep. Once we were ready mum and I set off, and the little dogs that live in the house on the corner shouted at us as we walked past but I ignored them cos there were some really scary holes in the road with big orange things around them. What ever lives in the holes must be really big and scary if they need keeping in with big orange things!

Mum was really boring and wouldn't let me gallop up the hill to where we have lessons, she said I'd be too tired too quickly!! As If!!! The lady we have lessons with is called angela and has a really loud voice, and there's some strange green and white human stables that are on the top of the bank above the school, and a new round thing that horses get put in to walk around (it squeaks occasionally and is scary), and then there's the massive pile of things wrapped in plastic. Tom says its got food in but I've yet to be convinced...

Angela said we were going too fast into our jumps, and that I'm too long... I can't be too long, Tom is shorter than me and wears longer rugs! So mum was making me canter really slowly with really little strides down a line of jumps. 2 were so close together that I couldn't take a stride, I think mum said it was a bounce... I'm not a rubber ball!

Then Angela made the jumps a bit bigger and took out the one that was the 'bounce' and put another jump at the end of the line. she told mum it had to be 5 strides away from the first jump. I ignored mum and put 4 in, you can't jump from that silly little canter she was making me do! but she insisted and made me put 5 in. It kinda worked, but then I got too close to the last jump. after a couple more attempts it came right, but I still think we're too slow. Does anyone else's mum make them do this? or is mine just scared of going really fast?

One time we were cantering round a corner and a bird flapped at me in the hedge and when I bronced all down the long side mum and angela just laughed at me! I might have got eaten!! how rude!

Anyway, lesson went well, I got loads of jumps to do, the biggest one was about 1m10 and had a yellow filler in it. Mum was really pleased cos I did a really big jump over it - well I didn't want it to eat me!

When we got home Mum put me in the winter paddock with Tom and we're going to stuff ourselves silly now cos there's soooo much grass. Mum and aunty Ro have been washing out our stables with a pressure hose, and they're going to paint them tomorrow. Tom wants his Pink, but i'd like mine Blue. Think they'll have listened to our request, we're bored of white stables!

have a big bucket of oats if you got this far, or get mum to share her hipflask with you!

PMSL brilliant!

You do realise I want more of these to read now!!

Your hipflask's are tasty! hic!

Sounds like it wasn't to bad after all Ron!!

As for the slow cantering nonsense - no idea what all that is about

Wow, Ron, you're so brave to jump over all those things! I always have to look at them first, and go really slowly. I don't like things hitting my feet, so I jump really high too, and make sure I pull my bum well out of the way! Do you get to run fast after you get over the jump, or does your rider make you go slowly then too?

What's the scary squeaky round thing for? Surely you don't need a round thing to be able to walk? I don't think I'd like a scary squeaky round thing.

Hi spookypony,
my friend Tom (who knows everything, or at least thinks he does) says that its for exercise, but I can't see how that it can be any fun.... and he says they only get to walk - definitely sounds boring to me.
mum makes me canter slowly after the jump too, I try to go faster, but she makes me slow down again. I don't like jumps touching my feet, but more than anything I just like jumping.

I used to hate jumping and would have to stop and have a look at everything first too, but when I moved to this mum's house she made me do lots of things like walking over plastic and really close to scary things and gave me lots of pats for it, and then she spent ages getting me to practice cantering making my bum work really hard and it made everything so much less scary and made jumping easier too. now it's brilliant fun - its like flying.

Its even more fun when mum takes me hunting cos we jump all sorts of things that you would normally get told off for jumping!! I jumped a field gate last year, and a hedge!

Hi Ron!

The Carrot Lady is trying to get me to like jumping over things too, but I don't know yet if that's ok...we went hunting once, and that was loads of fun, and jumping isn't nearly so scary when there's lots of others jumping too! But why does it always have to be big sticks with stripes on?
