This is whats happening in Sweden right now...

Sara won the silver medal(eventing) at the Olympics this year. She took the first medal for Sweden and overnight became Silver-Sara with the entire population.

She has another horse in training, Mrs Medicott, that she believes could be her next olympic horse. The owners wants to sell and Sara has been struggling to get the money, about €100K, together for a while. She was presented with a deadline, buy the horse by Monday or it goes to a salesbarn.

As of yesterday she had only about half of money secured and things were not looking good.

A supporter decided to start the facebook page "save Mrs Medicott for Sara". A bankaccount was opened (yesterday), the bank was alerted to what was going on and put on high alert for possibly recieving a lot of money to that account.

Within a couple of hours at least a quarter of the "missing money" was raised. Many contributing 10 or 15 euros, a few throwing in 150 or even 500 euros.

At this point it's looking like Sweden might be able to spring the horse, but in the unlikely event that not enough money is raised it has been decided that instead of a pay-back the donations will go to the junior and young rider event teams of Sweden.

Looks like they are doing pretty well....

Taken from the FB page (with the help of bing translator)

My friends-just over 17,000 members and $ 107.000 already, but there is much more, because some banks keep the money until the next business day, Monday. Monday-Thursday, we know more; my phone is hot. Turned on an hour and had ten missed calls. Ridsportmedia and mainstream media has woken up. Was interviewed four times today. (Translated by Bing)

At the moment, "we" have 127.500 SEK = 17 932,74 USD.

International media is now calling and we have articles in swedish newspapers/horse magazines, german horse magazines, the cronicle of the horse, horseandhound (but I haven't found the article).
German, danish, american and norwegian people contribute with money :D

thank you for the update, I was wondering how it was going.

Since today was the deadline, do you have any news if the horse will stay with Sara?

Yes, Sara called the owner yesterday and he was stunned about what was going on so she got one more week to buy the horse. The deadline is next Tuesday.

Right now we have 61 921,29 USD (47 739,59 EUR)

:D

just out of interest why didnt you just go to the sales and buy it? surely would have been cheaper than way,

How is the funding going? I have found the page on facebook but was not sure how much money has been raised. Hope you can do it!

SEK 541700 to date. Equivalent to just over £50k.

If she already had 1/2 the money then she now has enough to buy the horse. Amazed that there aren't any owners in Sweden or Germany (she's married to Frank Ostholt) who would be interested in supporting her, especially in view of her recent 2012 results
