Girl at next doors yard had her finger trod on and smashed to pieces, literally half of it hanging off by a thread. Called the ambulance, took her to one hospital, couldnt do anything so rushed her to another where they have hopefully sewed it back on for her - we had to try to convince her last night that she wouldnt lose her finger

will know more later. My OH broke her finger last year trying to catch a horse by its rug, this is how this started last night, why do we risk our safety for our loved ones, horses that is! What is the grossest stable incident you have seen? If you are out of hospital today neighbour and reading this, HOPE YOU ARE OK.....

Grim - I hope she is ok!

The grossest thing I have seen is a pony that impaled its-self on a fence post and ripped its chest right open. There was a flap of skin about 12 inches by 12 inches just hanging down and you could see right inside the poor thing! It was ok though, bless it!

Worst horse incident was a yearling impaled on a post and rail fence (vet could get his arm in the wound, up to his elbow

). Worst human accident was girl who caught her ring and had her finger ripped off (sadly the finger couldn't be reattached

). Grossest of all was the other night while walking my dog with a friend, dog started rolling in something (thankfully hers), it was a dead rabbit which was heaving with maggots!!!! The smell was unbelievable.

so far it would be my colt getting too greedy last yr and tried to get to the hay in doing so he managed to break the galvanise sheet and slice his cheek on it. we noticed when we went done to feed up he was quiet but didnt see the wound til we were gonna leave, got the vet out which cost a bomb on new yr day and she cleaned it but couldnt stitch as wound too infected, you could see his cheek bone yuk but it healed real nice very quick and you would never tell he had done it

Worst horsey accident has to be a little welsh section A staked herself, cue lots of blood everywhere and had to have lots of internal and external stiches. She was alright although it did put an end to her showing career, so she is now a mummy and a LR pony.
Another nasty one was an ex-eventer was turned out with a loose back shoe and managed to twist it in such a way that it meant that the quarter clips sliced into her foot and made it bleed, not nice bless her!

Havent seen anything bad myself but heard of a yearling left unattended at a trailer in a show who managed to get his leg caught in the trailer/towing parts and subsequently broke his leg...sounded like a truly awful incident.

I saw lots of nasty things working at the vets but the grossest things always involved maggots. Horses in for willy amputations with growths up their sheaths nearly always bought in hundreds of little friends with them! Sadly enough I used to love anything involving removing pus although I think many would find it gross!

Grossest non horsey thing was standing on a dead bird in bare feet that my Boxer bought through her dog flap - it was hooching with maggots and I had to clear it up.

I think I have a maggot phobia!

worst thing horse wise i have ever seen was my yearling who stripped her back leg to the bone removing all tendons, skin etc, as electric fencing got caught round her leg as the horse in the next field came through into mine and that horse also died in my field. both not very nice sights. human wise when my nephew gashed just above his nose when he was 2yrs old i could see the bone and the amount of blood gushing from it was unreal

How horrible.

For me it must've been when went down to get Chloe, another horse in the field was getting very upset because her friend had been taken away. I couldn't actually get into the field and had to stand there to stop her attempting to scramble over. I then noticed blood specks on her chin, then I looked down and she had put her leg through the post and rail, and on bringing it out again, had pulled most of the skin off her knee - It was just hanging by a thread....I had never seen anything like it before, it really shocked me!! Rang YO who sent 2 grooms up, but they took about 15 minutes despite me saying it was urgent....They thought I was over exaggerating until they actually saw it...
