Scabby bleeding ears - frostbite?

When I lived at home my lurcher was always wrestling and play fighting with my mum's dog. One of their favourite games was to take it in turns to gnaw at each others' faces and ears (lurcher people will probably be familiar with this!). Now and again I'd notice that my dog had nicks on the end of his ears which I presumed were from rough playing, and they healed fine with sudocreme.

Now my dog lives on a yard with a grumpy terrier that doesn't play and his ears are still manky. They keep splitting on the ends, almost healing and then splitting again. Someone has suggested it could be frostbite, but he doesn't spend much time hanging about in the cold. I'm going to ask the vet later if flamazine is ok to put on them or if there's anything better.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

My old dog Holly (springer x lab) had scabby ear ends, from where she and Baba would fight and then she'd reopen them often by shaking her head or scratching!

My dogs have had this, we have a lot of badgers/foxs in my fields, so ive always put it down to mites/mange, it never got any worse, i use to put neem oil on them.
