Sick-note has always had scabs on her back legs above her fetlocks, but I've noticed this spring/summer she has scabs on the back of her knees too. She's previously had dectomax (2 years ago) with no difference. Clipping her legs is not an option. However I can't see where the scabs are coming from, no cuts or sores on her legs (front or back) just scabs in her feathers, that don't come out with brushing or washing.
Vet isn't bothered, pony doesn't seem bothered so I suspect I should just leave well alone but it bugs me as I don't know what's causing it/how I can get rid of it!
Ideas please? Camrosa/neem oil/stinky stuff/pig oil and sulhur/nothing?

Be very careful with Pig Oil and Sulphur if you've not used it before; the pig oil on its own (mixed with Neem or whatever) might be OK, but you need to patch-test for 48 hours first with the Pig Oil and Sulphur. I followed advice on here, and not knowing, slapped the stuff on my boy, who's got white legs and pink skin, and it burnt him. So be careful.

At the moment, I've just bought some of the Oil2Horse stuff and have started using that. It comes highly recommended, and I'm just hoping that it WILL work on mine and isn't just hype.

Sounds like Cob Knee? A build up of sebaceous secretions behind the knees, above the fetlocks and sometimes also on the inside point of the hock. Some cobs are just prone to it. It doesn't cause them particular problems unless it builds up so much it rubs the skin underneath. Sulphur won't have any impact - thats more for mud fever anyway. Oil can help. But I just run a huge handful of udder cream onto the patches and it will all come away over the course of a few days. (Don't use the pink stuff with Hibiscrub - it dries red and makes the horse look like a bad horror movie!

Thanks for the testing tip mijods- I'd be interesting in knowing how you get on with the oil2horse stuff once you've given it a go if that's alright?
Shay- sounds right on her knees, back legs it's along the back of the cannon(?) bone, just above the fetlock area. What kind of oil? I'm presuming udder cream can be bought at general farmers merchant type shops? Thanks for the tip about hibiscrub cream- sure it would look a treat on white legs!

My cob suffered this for years. Disappeared completely after starting a good vit/mineral supplement (pro balance from progressive earth). Took about 6 months to go, but definately recommend healing from the inside.

Is it different to mallanders?

My cob has scabby patches but only on the back of one of his knees... and it seems to be healing very slowly with e45 cream but I will try anything to get rid!

Yep, will do! TBH I'm a tad cynical about all these "wonder" claims to stuff....... having looked at this stuff, and trying to suss it out, it hasn't actually got any "ingredients" as such which they boast of, nope, it just seems to me that it is possibly a more refined (and certainly considerably more expensive) version of Pig Oil???

I applied one lot, overnight, and then washed it off my boy's legs as I didn't want him out with oil on his legs in the heat we've been having. So now it is a little cooler, might be a good time to try it.

I have used Neem in the past; as he's got white legs he ended up with primrose-coloured legs!! Have also used Neem mixed up with some Sudocrem and slapped on. But not in the hot sunshine!

Will keep updating.......
