Scabby, cracked heels !

My mare has got sore heels which seem to flake and bleed just the top surface of skin comes off. Anyone else had similar problems, what do you use to help clear? Asking the farrier tomorrow if he has seen anything like this before.

i have just posted in the thread below about what hogweed can do.it may be worth seeing if you have any in the field just to eliminate it

Are they white. It could be getting sunburnt. I turn mine out in an overreach boot on her white leg, stops any sunburn.

is ur horse a hairy? my traditional cob gets similar, asked my farrier and he called it greasy heels. id been treating him as though it was mud fever. i find cleaning it with hibi scrub then applying a cream to keep the skin soft seems to work
