Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Horse is weight bearing but unsound/stiff in walk. Vet coming tomorrow at 9 but just curious. Really fleshy and swollen on Pastern around circular scabby wound. Wondering whether it’s a bite? 23B1FBB6-473B-4CFF-8161-158AD130D578.jpeg

Do you have any blackthorn around? This looks exactly like the blackthorn (most likely) puncture wound on my horse's fetlock some years ago. He had xrays but the offending object couldn't be found, though the track of it was visible. Vet thought just a tint tip had broken off and was still in there. He had swelling, needed antibiotics, and was lame for some time.
I first noticed it one evening looking like OP picture - the next morning it was draining pus and watery blood, which was when I called vet urgently given proximity to joint. Good luck OP

Vet has given antibiotics and painkiller for now - something could be stuck so if no better in 5 days then scan. Had improved overnight and much sounder in walk today, although still sore..

The field is enclosed by bushes which could have blackthorn.. no puss/blood though still dry and scabby. Vet said could be a sting/bite or he could have caught himself. He has had some horrific cuts before though and never been lame!

It could just be infected my mare had a similar thing on one of her legs years ago and after a few days on antibiotics she was sound.

If it's near a joint it can make them quite sore to walk.
