Hi all,

Autumn seems to have developed these scabs/sores in the corner of her nostrils and it is really puzzling me as the where they have come from. I've never seen anything like it and it sounds really stupid but they look more like sores than cuts as if snot has done it or something? teres absolutely nothing in stable or field i can think of that shes done it on (they appeared a day or two apart) anyway for now they are getting cleaned with baby wipes and putting antiseptic cream on them.

just wondering if anyone has ever come across anything like this before as its really puzzling me!

Does the horse have a pink/white nose?
Sounds like some kind of allergy could be to sun or something that is being eaten or being brushed against .Does the grazing contain a lot of buttercups ? I have seen this with buttercups also St John's wort in grazing can cause scabbing.
I would put on some sort of barrier cream and maybe a sun block and monitor it .If it gets really sore and spreads all over the nose I would get the vet to take a look.

Are you sure you aren't looking at the opening of the tear duct. These are found on the floor of the nostril about one inch in towards the middle of the head. They are circular, bright pink and about 4mm accross. Compare to another horse and make sure you look really far in and with a good light. If they are you definately don't wont to be putting any cream on them coz you might block them.
