I am posting on behalf of my friend. She has a ginger mare who is always very itchy. When she checked her the other day she had lots of scabs all over her body. Not sure whether these are itchy patches that have scabbed with her rubbing or they started as sores? I know ginger horses can have very sensitive skin. Is there a recommended lotion/potion to try or should she be looking at supplements in feed?

Would get the Vet to have a look to see what's causing the scabs and itchiness. Could be an allergic reaction to something - a skin test maybe needed.
I've got a chestnut mare and although sensitive skinned she doesn't get any more itchy than my others who're different colours. Only time gets very itchy is if there's certain types of pollen that seem to affect her.
I find (good quality) Aloe Vera skincare and supplements excellent, but it'll only relieve symptoms if there is an underlying issue.

I have a grey who gets very itchy, gets hives easily and scabby at times. Her reactions are caused by many different things, heat, washing powder, sweat etc etc and she has to be managed carefully. I have found bathing her using head and shoulders, the menthol one for itchy hair, has stopped her from getting scabby. Although this winter she did get a nasty skin reaction with scabby oozy sores which involved using a antibiotic cream from my vets to clear up, along with spraying her with hypocare. Other things to try for itchiness is putting a cotton sheet on against the horses (if rugged), nylon lining on most rugs these days is not quite as breathable as good old cotton. Feeding linseed has been fab for her skin. I have had good results with aloe vera too!
