scale of 1-10 how chavish is this?

I wouldn't have said it was chavish, but I'm not sure why you would bother with it either! Tbh though I'm not really an ornaments type of person so I am sure I'm missing the point rather! If I wanted to hang on to a horse shoe as a memento then I would just give it a really good scrub and spray it to prevent it from rusting.

Not to my taste but can see why someone would want a keepsake. I have some of my cats hair in a silver locket and when find the funds will have a bracelet made from the horses mane, again not everyone would want this but its something I'd like.

FestiveNeighs: I understand what you are saying: a horseshoe of your horse is special as it stands, scrub it and spray paint it and it becomes even more special and a bit nicer to look at. I just want to feel that I have done something extra special with it. I am not one for ornaments much either. The sum total of mine are as follows:

The 3 cheats (3 kids playing cards and cheating... was my grandmas)
Opera glasses (my other grandmas)
shot and sherry glasses (brought out of my dads hard earnt cash as a kid for my great grandma)
1 cup and saucer (the only ones left from a china tea set I had as a kid)
1 penguin (purchased last week... he is fab)
1 antique JD tractor (purchased for OH last christmas)
Just thought that they would make really nice keepsakes... I have no problem with just keeping the collar or the shoe, but I feel that this almost makes then that much more special and more useable as an ornament.

Cob girlie: my mum has hair from her old cob, I have a false plait that I made from Ebony's tail to replace the bald patch at the base of her neck 2 years ago :D that I intend to keep. Interesting thinking though, could make a horse hair bracelet... wonder if that would stand up to silver plating or if it would burn... will have to look into that :)

I was completely prepared for some chavtastic horror but I think it is a great idea - more so for the dog collar than the shoe as it is metal already and I feel I could just paint it myself without too much problem.

not chavvy. only because i did it as a gift for my niece when she was born & am doing horse shoes as both favours & pew ends for my wedding. have to admit - i have become just a teensy bit obsessed with horse shoes though...

It was your thread that got me thinking about it LOL! Now debating whether they can infact silver plate a horse hair bracelet?!!! Obsession... is a good thing.
