My boy started off with a scabby area in one spot under his girth.
I thought it was a girth rub so changed girth, added a fluffy sleeve and kept a close eye on it.
The initial area mostly healed up, but remains scaly. This is despite him not wearing a girth at all for 2 weeks.
He now has other patches of scaly skin in the girth area, and some up in his armpits (where his girth doesn’t even touch)
So now I’m not so sure the original scab was girth related.
He’s in very light work and almost never works up a sweat, or even a damp patch so I’m not sure it’s sweat related.
Despite this I’m making sure i carefully wash off the area after riding.
Any thoughts what it could be? And what else I could do about it?
(the careful washing has only started in the last few days so I doubt I’m drying out the skin through over washing)
