Probably going on elsewhere too so be careful.

Someone phones you inferring that they are from the Police and would you like to place an advert in one of their publications.

The Police have NOT authorised anyone to make such calls so if you receive one, do please them know.

If you have already succumbed and are receiving letters/calls for monies, etc. then again let the Police know + Trading Standards and the Advertising Protection Agency

It seems that that in this particular region, equestrian businesses are being selected.

Sometimes there is a follow on call later in year or early in new year which goes as follows:-

They ask to speak to accounts department and say they are chasing payment relating to advert put in their publication (usually books put into schools). They name person who agreed to place ad.

This was tried earlier this year with our company. When asked who had placed ad they named my husband and insisted they had spoken to him earlier in the year and that he had agreed to place ad. When I explained that hell would freeze over before he would even answer the phone let alone agree to ad they became abusive, saying they had agreed it with him and that I knew nothing as I was 'only the secretary' and demanded payment - however, when I said send copy of ad along with address for payment marked for my attention Finanace Director and wife of who had placed ad they hung up. Trading Standards know about these companies but can never catch them

It is quite a big problem.
Anyone who is approached - please contact the Police, etc. as some of the companies are using very unpleasant tactics.
