Hi, my mare had a tear in her DDFT which was diagnosed a year ago by MRI. She had lots of box rest as it took a while to get the correct diagnosis. We had handwalking and she was brought back into ridden work in Feb this year, but still on box confinement. Wasnt worth turning her out as our yard was on Winter turnout rota, fields were mud and slippery, it was too much of a risk.. She was turned out 24/7 after further check ups by the vet on May 9th and has been out ever since. Shes in almost daily ridden work, lots and lots and lots of roadwork for strengthening her whole body and tendons and ligaments. We went back in the school only about a month or so ago, maybe 6 weeks. We only do about 15mins after a walk round the block first to warm her up and her legs. 2 weeks ago we had our first canter in there and she was fab. She feels a lot more willing now so that tells me she a lot more comfortable than she has ever been. Her insurance runs out next week so Im really hoping that things continue as well as they are now.

We went to walk trot dressage on 14/8 and got 2 3rd places so there is hope. You just need to give it a lot of time and you need lots of patience. She still is a little pottery at times when we first set off riding out but this passes. She did have some inflammation in her navicular bursa for which shes had 2 separate injections. The first one only lasted 2 months when she was stabled. The second one was in April and since shes been turned out, has fingers x lasted and I really hope thats the end of it all.

Gook luck with yours. PM me if you want any further help or advice. x

My boy had a suspected tear to the ddft in his near side hind.....the ultrasounds were inconclusive (they were convinced there was damage but the other leg showed a similar thing when they looked at it for comparison) When he went in he was hopping lame, three weeks of hydratherapy he was almost sound, another four-five weeks of box/pen rest he was allowed back into very gradual work. Two months of starting with 5 mins walk and increasing daily til at the end of ther period we were going on an hours ride and then we were allowed to start canter work and schooling. We left it another 2 months before we gradually introduced jumping. This was about three years ago and once we were back going again we have just moved on gradually and we have just started doing unaffiliated Intro events and he is a star. It was a long hard slog but as I had only had him about 8 months the whole nursing thing made the bond between us much stronger and I believe that has really helped our partnership. Keep your chin up as difficult as it may be and try to stay optimistic, it's tricky but there are a lot of stories with happy endings.
PS A good piece of advice someone gave me on this forum was to be careful about looking on the internet.....the general picture is of doom and gloom and whilst you have to be realistic, I found the general websearches very pessimistic and it was only on here that I got some positive vibes and success stories. Good luck and keep us posted!
