Hello All

My 2 mares are in foal for 2009. They both had their 14 day and 28 day scans and all was well with both of them.

Does anybody else scan agn to check progress?? I'm so excited about my babies and each day seems so long when your counting down til May!!!!

Both mares are doing great but it's a nightmare when you cant ask them how they are feeling!!

I know i should just relax and let nature do what it does best but thats mission impossible

Anyone else out there fretting away haha

Thanks

I normally don't bother scanning again after the 28 day scan - unless I have reason to suspect a problem - but then I'm using my own stallion. Many studs work their free return on a 'no foal at 30th October' means free return basis, and in that case I'd scan again before 30th October to ensure I could claim my free return.

I am having a 50ish day scan on my mare. She's actually 59 days today but am coinciding her scan with my other mare's first scan next week.

If I don't have the scan I will be wondering constantly is she or isn't she, she is not a big shower when she's in season so I don't think I could tell if she came back in.

One of my vets (not my usual vet) reckons he can sex the foals after 60 days, am tempted to ask him to do it

I had a 42 days scan (for the same reason other have said, but mine was because I still had 2 straws left and she took in March so we could have tried again), and then at 60 days because she was acting like she was having a full blown season and a gelding was quite riggy and was chatting her up

I did it to be on the safe side.
