I am thinking of having may mares ovaries scanned. She is on regumate. Will being on regumate alter the image of her ovaries whilst being scanned? I will ask the vet but wondered if anyone has done this.

I am thinking about it because although she is on regumate at the moment her way of going has altered just recently. I have only had her since May last year, she is 11, had had two foals. She is very well behaved on the ground but under saddle becomes tense and irritable at times, nothing too dangerous but just wants to run. She was put on regumate last November! I had resisted it but then she came into season when a new gelding arrived on the yard and then became dangerous in her stable. This made a huge difference but she will always knock you off the diagonal in trot on the right rein and can be a bit grumpy tightening her girth. Just this past week she has become more fractious and more tense under saddle.

She is so good natured on the ground I want to see if there is a route cause to this. I don't want to waste my money having her scanned while she is on regumate if the image will be disguised and the outcome not certain.

Hi there,

Have you had other things checked out too, might not be just her hormones? Could be the saddle, stomach ulcers or something else? (Feels like a minefield though doesn't it! Wish they could talk and tell us what's wrong!)

Being on Regumate won't disguise the image - you'll see what is there - possibly an elarged ovary. But the symptoms you mention in a mare on Regumate would suggest a back problem - good physio might be your first port of call.
