Just don't know where to go from here!!

So he was due to go in next Monday for a bone scan for suspected bad damage to Sarcroiliac joint....he is very unlevel & went very lame after flexion, also taking shorter stride behind .. symptoms going on a while...

He has a scar on his off hind which has never bothered him ( prev owners couldnt remember from what ) ...... today I arrived up & the whole scar has opened up - open wound is about 3 inches in length - worse thing is it is right on the front of the fetlock joint(

Its been cleaned out & he is poulticed at moment but I have to say it looks awful

Vet will be called but YO says its going to be exceptionally tricky to sort as couldnt just be stitched, it would have to be operated on ( he isn't insured & don't have thousands spare lying around... bone scan is going to cost 1k as it is but that is on hold with todays episode )

UUGGGHHH Just don't know what to feel... they say things happen in threes... half expected my mare to come in on 3 legs today... Have no idea how it opened up ... any ideas or advice please..

Why does an open wound need to be operated on?
My advice would be not to panic, I have known more than one 'trying to be helpful YO' spout incorrect drivel.

Keep it clean and see what the vet says.

the probably was something in the scar, even a chip off bone which has come to a head and burst out like an abscess, so keep clean and bandaged, manuka honey is good and carry on with getting the joint scanned etc. all will be fine.

You never know - the suspected sacroiliac problem might not have been that, the lameness could have been due to something brewing inside the scar for a while. Stranger things have happened.
