Ryu has a big round scarcoid on his inner thigh, I had had it checked multiple times by various vets from the practice I use and they have said leave alone but monitor, this was as recently as August when Bails had a chect infection and I showed the vet Ryus growth again and he said to leave it, we discussed using camrosa liverpool cream, banding it off and surgical removal the vet said just to leave as sometimes the horses heal themselves and intervention can just make them worse. Anyway the growth has split and is weeping blood and discharge, over the weekend Ryu musti've laid on it and there was gunk allover his sheath and the growth looked very raw. Ryu in himself is fine and my friend even squeezed the growth and he didn't react she thinks I should have it surgiacally removed asap and I'm contacting the vets today to get them out, has anyone their horses sarcoid removed like this and was it successfull? Its really gross we call it the 'brain'!!!

I think you are doing right to deal with it. There is a saying 'leave well alone' and it is no longer 'well'

.

It is correct that interfering with sarcoids is not recomended. Interference can make more pop up in other locations

. As Profssor Knottenbelt says, the only predictable thing about sarcoids is that they are unpredicatble.

You and your vet have to weigh up the potential consequences with the risk of infection from a weeping sarcoid. You could be one of the lucky ones who deals with it and never has a problem again

We used to say Toto's sarcoid looked like a brain !! they are horrid when they errupt and weep , we used Blood Root ointment from the vets and within 12weeks it had dropped off and never returned , brilliant stuff and dead cheap and easy to use

if the horse is good about it, and the sarcoid feels mobile (not rooted around a blood vessel) try giving it a really hard squeeze at the root, sometimes they just pop off in your hand. have had to do that with loads, i had a mare who had tons of them. otherwise, smother it with camrosa or vaseline till the vet comes.
btw the blood out of a sarcoid does not cause more sarcoids, unlike human warts...
