This morning, we had a bit of a scare and I thanked all that is holy that I have insurance (luckily, not needed).
My friend was meant to be doing BSJA tomorrow, but her mare has a bit of a puffy leg since hunting (no heat or lameness) so is giving it a miss. At another venue, they're doing good old fashioned clear round, so we thought we'd take Markie. She's never jumped him and we took him in the school this morning.
He enjoys jumping up to about 2'6", never stops, is reasonably careful and, being a cob, super comfy. She's used to jumping a tbxwb who can put in a nasty stop and also really throws a shape over a fence. Thought it would be a piece of cake...........
Anyway, just did a few cross poles, then put up a little straight about 2ft. All going fine, then Markie took off about half a stride early and she lost her balance. She was a bit tipped on landing, I thought she was going to sit up but, for some unfathomable reason, she sort of half somersaulted off and landed very awkwardly.
Bless her, she screamed and just didn't move. I belted across the school (no mean feat) thinking she'd broken her back. She's only 22, and normally very reserved so it's unusual for her to scream. Thankfully, it was clear, very quickly that she was winded, shocked and sprained rather than broken.
Bless Markie, he just should there and didn't move a muscle. It's the first time anybody has fallen off of him in at least 14 years!
I'm so glad I'm insured, I was just imagining how awful it would have been if she'd been in a wheelchair. She said she wouldn't sue though! She's been checked out and the medical people say she's pulled a muscle. Guess who's got extra mucking out to do for a while!
(ETA, she was wearing a body protector, but I'm sure it's what made the landing more awkward
