Scared youngster......

I have had my youngster since he was 6 months old, he is now nearly 2 yrs old. He has never really been particularly spooky (hes cob x tb) but i have noticed just lately he is scared of everything, even things he is used to and hasnt been bothered about before. Yesterday he was in his stable after having his tea, so i went in to put headcollar on, he decided that was scary but even more scarier was having his rug put on!!! These are all things that he never usually bats an eyelid at but all of a sudden he has changed, he is still in the same routine, same feed, same friends in the field etc but everything is oh so scary. Its like the window of opportunity of being brave and bold has closed!!! Is this the same for most youngsters?! He's my first one ive had since a foal.
 
Yes he is wired due to grass, time of year. Everything is all too exciting. My 2yo and 3yo jumped out of their turnout paddock yesterday (I think they may have seen a bird/blade of grass/tree/all of the above as were high blowing and snorting beforehand). Luckily the lane is a single track that goes nowhere also luckily the neighbours are used to visits from my horses from time to time. So off they galloped full flight tails over the backs while I wearily fetched bucket of food and ropes.

They were headed by Martin in his tractor and as they pelted back past the house full flight they were headed by Sean in his tractor so as they were now a tractor sandwich, they decided to come home and got shut immediately in stables while they frothed and foamed and stared wild-eyed into the distance - Pillocks!

At least in another way they are completely bombproof as take no notice of farm machinery and does not scare them a bit!!!!
 
I've noticed with our homebreds that they do seem to learn to be wary (scared?) of things as they get older. Last year I put some fallen down branches into the youngsters' paddock. The four year olds - who were as bold as anything as foals - cantered round snorting but the two year olds went straight up to them. However they haven't become scared of headcollars or rugs. Has anyone else handled him recently?
 
I would think that its just spring in the air! I tied mine up in a different place on the yard yesterday.. just opposite where he's usually tied and there was a leadrope dangling from the tie ring... well... you would have thought it was a snake waiting to get him in the jugular!!... obviously once a haynet was placed bhetween it and him, it was safe to stand there...
 
Spring grass and windy day today resulted in so impressive sideway leitation from both rising 3yr old baby (Mr Sensible normally) and idiotic Drama queen welsh cob.
