Following some desperately needed advice on how to solve the problem of a blind-panic bolting horse (thanks all!), I've decided this HAS to stop before somebody gets hurt!
Have checked his back and saddle - no problem.
Stabled during the daytime to cut back on any unnecessary energy that may leave him wired up.
Been working on groundwork, lunging, join up etc to burn energy and just general bonding with him for trust reasons.
Have swapped him to a waterford bit (trying him on it for the first time tomorrow!).
Have been practising my one-rein stops in the school (though a bit worried about this - he's quite unbalanced and nearly fell last time I tried this mid-bolt!).
Have invested in a pair of horsey ear plugs to dampen the sounds whilst he hacks (rustly things and the sound of wind appear to set him off usually).
Am in current contact with a favourite old instructor of mine who shall be paying a visit to us shortly.
Have him on Magic OS for calming effect.
Am walking him out in-hand - firstly in company, behind one of my retired oldies - now he's confident taking the lead... Hopefully in-hand alone as of tomorrow - also maybe ride him whilst OH walks out with me.
Anything else or just continue as I am?? I've also been told it's vital I find somebody to hack out with... Big problem. I haven't long ago moved yards, know of nobody here (apart from one yard of which I've had bad experiences with!) who I can go out with and don't have any transport for my boy. Any ideas how I could possibly find somebody? Starting to despair now, as a couple of weeks ago was in touch with a lady offering hacking company but seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
