Decided to go on a hack with a young horse i'm riding on behalf of a friend so brought a separate friend with me to walk with. We went into a field for a canter as he'd behaved on the hack and had some fun.

Set off at a canter and horse gets excited and starts bucking, so i'm trying to sit the bucks and canter and as he bucked he jumped to the side and I fell off onto my hip, leg then head. Laid in the field screaming as friend calls an ambulance. Next thing I know, a guy runs over and puts a blanket on me and tent over me (from fell rescue) and calms me down. Then the paramedics arrived and started dealing with me and getting me warm and such. Little did I know, they had asked for the air ambulance to come so that landed near me (cue me panicking and getting upset).

They help me up and onto a stretcher and load me into the ambulance and give me gas and air as needle phobic. They thought i'd broken my hip (gross) and rushed me to A&E.

Spent just under 2 hours in there having x-rays and tests. Thankfully nothing broken except the torn muscles in the back of my legs and bruised hip bone. Now on crutches! I was told I was very lucky not to have broken my hip!!

(Horse was taken home safely and had no injuries thankfully)

Very scary day and one i'll never forget!! (Yes, I feel I need to write this down as it's starting to sink in) :o

You were very lucky hot bath and rest. Glad your both ok. :)

I had all that going on when I got swiped off backwards by a tree branch. Only I had Helicopter Heroes on board the Air Ambulance. Oh my! It was shown on TV last November!

Oh wow!! Mum said 'Are we going to be on tele?' and the pilot was like 'Erm.. no..' :biggrin3:

Thank you everyone for your well wishes. Very sore this morning but relieved that nothing is broken. Lucky lucky me!!

Get well soon and good that you've not broken anything..whew must have been exciting! :o Do take it easy though and let your muscles heal fully .

Not a nice thing to have happened, but at least you got rescued in style! Hope you continual to heal quickly, you're obviously still quite bouncy not to have broken anything!

Glad to hear you're in recovery and lucky lucky lady not to have been any worse... take care of you.

And a massive round of applause for our lovely Air Ambulance crew, who do a fantastic job.

How scary! Glad you are alright. I agree with the hot bath - with epson salt - put lotion on after wards as the epsom salt will dry out your skin but is really good for sore tired injuried muscles.... heal up soon!

Wishing you a speedy recovery xx I had a horse kick me on the hip bone and they thought I had broken it, luckily only bruised bone like you but they said that a bruise is sometimes more painful than break! I really do feel for you as I remember how uncomfortable I felt, hope you rest and get better soon lovely xx

Thanks again all.
Haven't attempted a bath yet, can't have a shower as can't actually put my foot down and bare weight on it. Shoulder and neck very sore this morning but weren't yesterday so thinking I slept funny!

I will get worse over the next couple of days, I'm afraid, but it will start to get better after that. You will also start to feel it in other places (neck and shoulder you have already mentioned)
If you have bruised your hip or pelvis then the blood from the bruise may start to run down your leg under your skin. This is normal. It just looks horrible and scary.
Check with a doctor / pharmacist first but it may be worth alternating taking paracetamol and ibuprofen to a maximum of half the daily allowance of each. You don't want to overdose. Paracetamol works on the nerves and the ibuprofen helps with the inflammation and muscular pain.

Hope you feel better soon & hope this accident hasn't knocked your confidence. Its awful when things like that happen. A lady at one livery yard l used to be at went hacking down a bridleway & her pony freaked out at something spun round & threw her out of the side door. She was left on the floor & the pony headed straight home. She was just badly bruised. You just look after yourself & get your OH to pamper you. Hugs & best wishes.

Thanks again lovelies, I am now sporting a swollen leg and a hell of a bruise. Shoulder and neck are sore as well as ribs but my hip and leg are the most damaged however I will be back in the saddle soon! No, it hasn't knocked my confidence at all and I even went to see Buster today, for the first time since my accident:

No, CT, I didn't go in the heli. It was called as I hit my head and my eyes went bloodshot so they suspected a head injury!
And my leg:

Ouchies :o You are going to turn a lovely shade of blue black green and yellow over the next few days :)
The horse I riding on lost his footing and fell on me, on Tarmac, in September and every joint on my right side was blushed and grazed. I documented the colour change lol. I really stiffened up after a couple of days. My body protector saved my ribs so if you've not already got one they are a really great investment. Meanwhile ice and ibuprofen is your friend.
