Just got back from my lesson where I ride with my daughter and some of her friends and midway through the lesson the horse she was riding suddenly took off and galloped AND I MEAN REALLY galloped with his tail in the air. She rode him on a small 20ish metre circle and the instructor was calmly trying to get her to pull him up but he went around about 20 times! I could do nothing but watch in total fear and panic. Not good and honestly, what can you do? I get so scared and she's only 12:(

I had my old horse try this with me. my instructor made me canter him until he tried to stop and he had to keep going until I told him he could trot. he had manage to get me off by doing this.
I think I was 14?

Had similar to this but in an open field-it ended very badly shall we say!
There is nothing you can do really-if it's a riding school make sure they're aware of what happened (not all instructors will tell the yard manager!). Make sure you stay as calm as possible and if your daughter is inexperienced with horses who do this, make sure you teach her what the best action to take is.

Horrible as it sounds, sometimes the kids who are put on the horses like this become the best riders!
