Saturday night before work, I had planned to take the young 'uns fly mask off. I got there, put headcollar on and not sure what happened but she started to bounce about and before I could do anything further, she pulled away, ripping the lead rope out my hands :(

She was tearing round the field, broncing and scared at the trailing lead-rope. Other horse thought it a game and cantered around with her. She kicked the fence at one point and then when other horse stopped beside me, she headed for gate and leaped over it. Heard her pull it from it's lock. Heart stopping moment as she disappeared towards the road. Running after her, the gate was knackered and all I could do was close it and hope the other horse didn't push it open and also escape - although she would simply go for grass if she did.

Jumped in car, went down bottom of our track and no sign of her. a neighbour jumped in car to help search. No sign of her anywhere. Went back towards yard, panicing and hysterical. YO at bottom of track holding pony!!! She'd gone into a neighbours garden and thankfully hadn't gone near the road.

She was caught with a carrot and led back to field. No injuries - just shocked. She went out to field grazing happily with other horse. She was buzzed and not totally happy with me touching her face.

Today I plucked up courage (finally finishing night shifts) to take her in and took fly mask off. So relieved as it could have gone so much worse and she is still a little worried regarding putting headcollar on - but just glad she's safe and well. I'm still shaking at the shock of it and still crying at the thought of how scared she was!!

Will always take her in stable to do anything with her!! Just had to get it off my chest.

Goodness what a nightmare over nothing!! Maybe she was stung by a bee/wasp just as you were trying to get the mask off and that set her off? Glad no one was hurt!
