The rain finally slowed down a little this evening so decided to pop little welshies fly rug on incase any hardcore midges decided to make an appearance.
OH and I turned back out with him walking in front with my mare and me behind with little pony in her smart new white rug with full neck cover and bright pink straps, got to field and let them loose at which point my scatty brained mare turned round took one look at little ponys new attire and freaked out.
Stood with legs splayed staring in horror then proceeded to run away.I stopped to watch them to make sure they were Ok and it took a good half an hour with much snorting and prancing back and forth before Savvie would stand anywhere near poor little pony, who meanwhile was wondering what the hell was going on with her best mate.
Left them to it for the night now with fingers crossed that when I go up in the morning scary rug is still in one piece and on pony.
Horses,quite bonkers !!!!!

Aww bless.

I went out on a call with a vet about a year ago now. The owner had bought their pony one of the SnuggieHood outfits to keep it clean for a show the next day, and got it in bright pink.

She turned the pony out and went to bed, and heard a commotion during the night (her horses were behind her house) and the pony was being attacked by the other two horses.

When she got out to the pony they had pulled the hood over the pony's face so that she couldn't avoid their kicks and bites. One horse had kicked her square in the forehead and fractured her skull.

Luckily the fragment of bone (about twice the size of a £2 coin) was still attached by one side although the vet was able to stick his finger in the hole.

Needless to say I am always weary about putting new rugs on if they're unusual!

Yeah I feel the same way,Horses can be so clever in some respects then so dim in others which is why if I put a new rug on or make any changes I try and do it on a day my OH can come up with me and be on hand if needed, not that he is horsey but will dive in if called on,then we always stay and keep an eye on them as long as possible and i will be up there first thing to check on them, luckily most of their field companions are retired oldies who all just stand there rolling their eyes with a seen it all before expression lol

Sorry I didn't mean for it to sound like I was suggesting you would have any problems! Just reminded me of that poor pony.
