I was wondering about school horse riding teams, I am going into sixth form this september and am advised to do something for the school that would look good on my record for when i go to uni.
I was wondering, even though I will be 17 if it would be possible that I would be allowed to set up a school horse riding team? asked the teachers before and there is no-one horsey so they won't do it, and it would be great to have a team!
Anyone out there who knows the answer to this question?!?!
not sure whether you have to be a teacher to start one up or not

I would think it depends on your school.

At mine students could set up any club they wanted, (within reason...) but they had to have a teacher in on it/in charge, even if the teacher didn't know anything about the subject.

My old school had a riding team and we have been to hickstead national school champs for the last few years now. The school PE dept used to have something to do with it, but since the horsey teacher left it has been organised by students and parents, doing all the training, entries, transport and fundraising. I loved being a part of it, I got loads out of it, my middle pic in my sig of us jumping in the school champs xx

I ran my school riding team when i was in year 10 and 11, so you obviously don't have to be a teacher. Just ask someone to put a notice out about a meeting, get everyone together, and make a spreadsheet of what each memeber does, and what horses/ponies they have, look for schedules which are mainly online, and see if you could make up a team, then have another meeting, see if people can make the event, then go

If you have people with schoolmaster ponies on the team you could also ask who is the school rides but doesn't have a horse and see if the school master would be lent to someone for the event/s.

i will have to ask the school and see what they say, i asked p.e dept before and they didnt want the hassle of setting up the club and stuff but if i was to do it , it would probably be ok (=

I will warn that some schools may be more strict about it than others- you are representing the school by using the school name, and therefore your actions will be a reflection on the school, which is why some may not allow it. I know after the party in the horsebox park at hickstead last year with us and a few other schools has resulted in one of the bigger schools pulling the team from this years competition.
