Need to top up the sand school where i ride, i am the only person who uses it, not sure what you need to know when choosing a surface so advice would be greatly appreciated. What would you recommend for general riding and jumping? Where would you get it from and how much?

ditto, anything other than silica sand is a total nightmare and extremely hard to fix....
for a 'cheap' option alot of people go for either equestrian sand plus rubber or wood chip....

Remember to get the right grade of Silica Sand. Just because it is called 'Silica Sand' doesn't neccesarily make it suitable for an arena. You need a fine grade, sub-angular Sand. There are only a handful of quarries in the UK that produce this.

I have plastic granules on top of silica sand which have been great I was even able to use it in the snow, the most it gets is a little crusty when every where else is frozen solid and once you've walked round it that goes too.

Mine is sharp sand with shredded carpet fibre on top. I need to put in a little more carpet fibre, but the areas where I have plenty at the moment are brilliant - barely mark when the horses go over them. Fibre comes from Brennan Keogh at Equicon - he was very helpful.
