schooling a standardbred

My daughter has aquired a beautiful mare she has a lovely nature & will do almost anything asked of her, She is crossed with standardbreed & we are having a few issues when trying to get her to bend,she just wants to keep on trotting in a straight line, my daughter is having lessons with her twice weekly, just wondering if anybody has any ideas thankyou all feedback welcome

Circles!

I remember when we tried to reschool my first mare, I think I went dizzy with the circles. It's also a tip I've had off a friend who has reschooled a few, particularly when trying to get them to canter nicely. Start big and gradually try to get them smaller.

There's a few groups on facebook with people who offer tips, Standardbreds in the UK and Standardbred Riders I've found really useful to read.
