Ok, so just looking for some thoughts on our little 'project'
We've had him a week and a half now, with a bit of lungeing and schooling in there. He has bronced and broken sisters wrist, nothing like that with me.
In his walk he's lazy and after a certain length of time in trot as well. He is fat and unfit, but as we're not sure how he would cope hacking so far he's only been in the school save last night when he went for his first dander up the road.
I think lots of hacking would be a good way to get him out and about and fitter?
He is 6 but not done much although can pop a jump. His canter is terribly unbalanced so jumping is on the sidelines for now.
Any tips/suggestions?

Lots of hillwork if possible, long walking hacks and some shorter with lots of trotting. Try and school twice a week, and hack the rest of the days he is worked. Variety is the key with babies, giving them food for thought so they enjoy their work.

Hacking out with another horse will help him to go forward more, and when you school him do loads of walk to trot transitions eg walk for 8 strides then trot for 8 etc. this will help him get more responsive to your aids. Do lots of cantering on the lunge it really helps with the ridden connection again using transitions trot to canter. I have got a four year old who was very similar to yours, shes just ready for her first dressage now!
