Everytime I go into the arena, I never seem to do much more than go round the edges or 20m circles! So I need some idea's..

I have an ex-racer, he's 5 and (nearly) 17hh. Sometimes goes round with his head in the air 'giraffe style' when he doesn't want to do anything, when he's like this it is hard to get him to relax and stretch down. We have some slight steering issues (currently in a french link loose ring, thinking about swapping to full cheek?) He can be quite lazy and lack impulsion from behind. His walk/trot is ok, canter is not so good - much harder to keep together and gets unbalanced. To be honest I think he gets bored (probably my fault), he much prefers hacking and jumping! :D

Would pay for a lesson but will be skint until after Christmas.. So need some inspiration for schooling exercises and techniques that will help..

If anyone wants to come give me a free lesson, feel free ;)

Haha no lesson just ideas:
Spirals
Trotting poles (in straight lines and randomly scattered)
Figure of eights (both across and down the school)
Transistions
Half/quarter circles
Straight lines not along the fence/arena boundary

I also use this blog for ideas too :http://www.schoolyourhorse.blogspot.com/

I recommend a full cheek for steering issues too :D Happy schooling :D
