i am riding someones horse that has a few problems at the moment so;

how do you get a horse that lacks straightness in canter better? wht exercise would i use and why does it benefit the horse?
how do you get the horse to stop falling in on the right rein that isnt laterally submissive on it? again what exercises and benefits?

thanks in advance :)

I would try to help that by going back to basics, make sure they are balanced and straight in walk and trot first, then move up to canter.

An exercise my old instructor got us to do was to ride between poles on the ground starting with one poles length, building up to 2 or 3 depending on the space you have. Start fairly wide apart then as you go borrow a friendly helper if you have one to narrow the gap down as you get better. I find it really helped because you didn't have a fence to guide you so really had to think much harder about what you were doing with yourself to achieve a good straight line. The poles just seem to help focus you, or they did me anyway.

It can also be really useful to get someone to watch you riding straight at them to see what track your horses legs are on, if you are typically on 3 in trot for example I'd be inclined to work out which leg is going where, sort that, then move up to doing the same in canter.

Also are you squint? I know I was squint for a while and got myself to an osteopath to straighten myself out and it did wonders for my straight lines on horses!

Hope this helps, sorry if its too basic!
