I have just bought a 6 yr old and she is still a little green. I'm after some ideas of excercises/schooling plans to help get her working correctly and engaging the hind quarters. She currently sticks her nose out and has big shoulders from working incorrectly.
I know it's a bit vague but any ideas are much appreciated. Ideally tried and tested!

The book - 101 Dressage schooling excersises is really good, it also includes some pole work, i have used excersises from this regularly with my young horse with good success.

The best exercise to make them engage the hindquarters and take the weight off your hand is transitions. Hundreds of them. Mostly between walk and trot, and remember to release slightly after the transition IF you feel her getting her using her hindquarters (number one indicator would be she is round and not pulling).

My instructor is always yelling open your inside rein close your inside leg..... It must work as we work beautifully from behind now. Also make sure saddle fits correctly otherwise this will make your horse stick its nose in the air as it can't round through the back x
