Any good schooling ideas that can help open a horses stride up and get them moving slightly more? After the first 20 minutes he feels really free and feels a lot more willing, but by then im knackered, I do lots of transitions at the moment and that works a bit anymore ideas?

You should not be knackered after 20 mins that is barely more than a warm up time, he should be working harder than you not the other way round.
The very lazy horse I am currently schooling takes a long time to get going, he is always behind the leg until he has had a good canter, I refuse to work harder than he does and this means always keeping the horse switched on unless giving a break and letting him stretch.
I do loads of transitions, walk to canter is the most useful, cantering in forward seat, rein back to trot and to canter once he has warmed up enough, then counter flexions to aid straightness and suppleness, moving into medium trot and canter, keeping him really on the aids at all times and never letting him get into a rut. I stop once in a while for a breather but even then he is not allowed to switch off.

You could try interval training to get him going forward, increase his stamina and your fitness as well as the exercises already suggested. :)
