My horse seems to be getting a bit bored of doing flatwork at the moment and I feel it's because each session we are doing similar things. Is there any way that I can make it a bit more fun? He's a really responsive horse although isn't going as forwards as I would like him to and he gets a bit distracted by the outside goings of the arena as he did a lot in the indoor arena over the winter but now I'm riding him outdoors he's got a lot more to look at.

Can you scatter poles randoms in the arena - or actually put up exercises with poles. Gives them something to look at and helps with then watching their feet. There are quite a few good books on schooling exercises - but if you do the same thing over and over you risk the horse getting school sour.

He is currently doing pole work to promote bordem as he went a bit off his head in the winter when jumping so hadn't been over a pole or a jump until recently so he is now going through having to do poles very regularly just to stop him getting worked up.
