I have a 9 yr old 15.1 Irish horse sport who I've had a year in April. He is strong willed and stubborn but has so much potential (that was my reasoning for buying him haha).
He is still being re schooled, he has improved massively and as his fitness has improved but the napping has gotten worse....
He always used to buck into canter, narrowed it down to a learned behaviour due to his old owners bad riding. His saddle fits, dentist up to date, has equine sport massages.
His latest trick is napping off my outside leg when I turn. I can also feel him collecting himself up (getting Sticky) with his hind end to to buck when I Trot/ask for canter and he either stops and bucks on the spot or moving forward into canter.
It's not a rodeo buck but they can be nasty ones. It's hard to tell if he's just throwing a strop or something else?
This type of behaviour is worse when I'm jumping him, but when he gets going he is brill!
Has anyone had more experience wth this type of stubborn nappy behaviour? And any tips on how to get him through it?
(He is not a fan of short crops but I use a dressage whips on the flat)
Thanks
