Ok i wonder if anyone has any advise for me, my daughters 14.3hh connemara gelding has started bucking in the school going from trot to canter also shaking his head at the same time. When it first happened I called the saddler out and she found that the saddle which had initally been fitted in April was now pinching him either side of the withers, so this was reflocked and checked again all seemed fine and he started going well again. About two weeks after he started the bucking again. I wanted to get a back person out but the earliest I can get an appointment is another three weeks so I have booked the vet out for this Friday to check teeth and back etc. We have had him ten months now with no problems whatsoever he isnt strong or naughty so this does seem out of character for him. I'm also a worrier so imagining all sorts:D anything I could've missed out on or overlooked anyone? thank you.

It's probably his back and your first port of call should be the vet. The vet can diagnose the problem and recommend physio if necessary. The pony may need some time off or work on the lunge and it might be worth getting a second opinion on the saddle fit. Saddles do need to be rechecked every 6 months or so as standard, or whenever the animal changes shape (puts on/loses weight or muscle).

On the positive side once the pain issue is resolved the naughty behaviour usually disappears.

Thanks for your reply, yes i was thinking back as well, the vet is coming Friday so hopefully we can find out what is causing the problem and take it from there. Will also get a second opinion on the saddle if vet fails to find anything.
