Does anyone have any proven experience of sciatica in their ponio? I have a 16hh IDxTB gelding who has a raised area of flesh just below the sacro illiac joint (behind saddle area) on his off side. This raised and heated area contains the nerve endings for that hind leg. Fred was on loan for a year and came home after he went lame a few months ago and loanees said that the saddle had never fitted properly. I have had foot and hock x-rays, 3 lots of vets, accupuncture and physio and no one knows where to go next (he is not insured). Possible next step is thermal imaging. He is only sore when worked on 20m circle - great out hacking. As vets are scratching their heads, could this be sciatica?

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Ive never heard or come across sciatica in horses but as a person who suffered crippling symptoms for many years (couldnt walk and was lined up for surgery) I would find it hard to believe a horse would only be lame in certain circumstances rather than at all gaits and all movements.

I would be genuinely interested to know what happens with this horse and what if any solution is found. I was finally relieved with Bowen Therapy.
