Could you more experienced feeding boffs help me?

I was just reading an old post about dog food and in that post the OP fed Bakers.

In all the replies nobody mentioned Science Plan?
I feed this to my dog and always thought it was one of the better ones out there but with nobody mentioning it I'm a bit worried that its not all it's cracked up to be.

He's only ever had dry food as I can't stand the smell of wet food (makes me heave!!) and I don't think I could handle the RAW regime as handling meat again turns the tummy!!

Anyway, is Science Plan a good food for my dog? He has the Natures Best one for adult dogs.

He's tried Arden Grange, James Well Beloved and Ekurnuba (excuse spelling!!) and turned his nose up. Science Plan so far is the only one he'll eat??

Oh dear! It comes up as red on this list (ie awful)

It seems to have lots of fillers and unnecessary ingredients. Vets have one day of nutritional training (for all animals) and are sponsored to sell Science Plan so often have it in their surgeries. Because it's expensive, people think it therefore must be good. :(

I personally wouldn't touch it. You could probably feed him anything as long as you stick some tinned fish eg pilchards on top. Avoid the tomato sauce version if the dog is arthritic. Alternatively, pour salmon oil over the top to encourage him to eat.

Wow, but I can't believe that out of 39 foods tested that only 5 are in green "the best" and I haven't heard of any of them. Where would I buy them from???
I don't buy my food from my vets and my vet doesn't recommend any food at his practice but I might speak with him again as I did ask him about both feeding Science Plan and Eukernuba (excuse spelling!!) and he said it was like comparing an Audi and a BMW, both just as good and the top end of the feeding spectrum...confused.
My dog is 17 months and I want him to be on the best stuff.

You can get them online.

Choose a decent food and get some samples from the manufacturers. If your budget is not massive, Wainwrights wet or dry from Pets at Home is decent, as is James Wellbeloved.

Thing with decent food is that although it's probably more expensive, you tend to feed less as the quality is better and you don't need as much.

Also look at the dogfoodanalysis website, very scary!

James Wellbeloved now do a range of cereal free kibble - which I think I would probably feed if I didn't feed raw, perhaps its worth a try?
If money was no object, and I couldn't feed raw - I'd also probably be tempted by ZiwiPeak.

Oh, OP, what about DUCK. It's a frozen complete food and having handled raw food I don't think it smells or feels that bad, I've used it as a Kong stuffing, fed it from my pockets etc. It is no more pricey than Science Plan but you do need freezer space.

Fish4dogs is really easy to get hold of (contains no grain, hence is a good one). I buy it online and it gets delivered straight to my door.

H was on Hills Natures Best when I 1st got him. I quickly stopped that when I looked into it's ingredients. He was then fed Burns, then Arden Grange for a while before Fish4dogs. I bought all of them online as it's so much cheaper than in the shops!!!
