Just wondered if anyone else had heard the same...

I need a bone scan done for my horse, but have been told by the vets that the stuff needed to do the scan (techniseam...excuse spelling!!) has a major production issue, and therefore no vets can do this in the uk for the next 4-6 weeks....

Anyone know of any vets that do have it?

Not holding out any hope

Yes - was told this yesterday by Rossdales who tried to find it for my horse. He has KS in lumbar region classified as very serious and is at the top of the list (no consolation - would rather he be mild and far down the bottom).

They told me at least 3 weeks though ... apparently it is all Norway's fault.

I hope you get your scan then! Apparently they use the same stuff as humans, therefore the NHS has priority over stock.... Im probably quite far down on the waiting list!!

Guess i'll just have to have an MRI done and hope that everything can be picked up. I was hoping to have had the bone scan though as my insurance will pay for that, whereas they will only pay up to 50% of the price for MRI's

...need to start selling stuff on ebay!!

thanks anyway - dorset may be a little far, even if they do have it (which i would be suprised about...they may have had it and now run out...)

Im scanning the hind foot as he has suspected 'soft tissue damage'...whatever that may be

We may MRI it first (as have isolated the problem by nerve blocking), and then wanted to use the bone scan to ensure that it wasnt related to any injury in the back/ hip etc (which I am pretty sure plays a part with this lameness).

Oh well - at least we can progress with the MRI and have the bone scan at a later date, should the MRI not show up anything useful.

Hope your horse is ok x

The half life is only a few days so only enough for the horses booked in this week. everyone else is on the waiting list.

Apparently the machines used to make the stuff need to be recalibrated every few days. This is done in Norway and the factory that does this is temporarily on a close down. So we all have to wait.

It is so frustrating. But at least you can get the MRI done.

Severe hock spavins. I still have copies of the scans and it just lights up like an xmas tree

. Definately worth it though otherwise we never would have known. Just knew that the barn were doing them resently but I'm not sure when the last one was.
sorry not very helpful
