has anyone found a way of fastening mud straps on scoots? by that I mean getting the straps through the pesky joiner. I cannot manage that even with the boots off the horse. I have tried the mud strap tip on you tube but that is not practical to do on a whole set of boots. Any ideas please or has anyone adapted them?

Push the end of the straps through the joiner one at at time and they should go, then hook the strap on the lower fastener. Once they are on just leave them on there. It makes the boots a bit harder to get on as you have to mind you don't trap the mud strap under the hoof but once you are used to it it's no bother.
I go in a lot of mud and find the straps are only needed on the fronts

thanks, it is pushing them through the joiner, it is too rigid and the second one simply won't go through. Since posting this thread I have heard from scoots. Apparently the old joiners were very rigid and they now have new ones so obviously I was not the only one with this problem.

Try putting the joiner in a cup of hot water to soften it

thanks and it is a good idea but not really practical to do every day to 4 boots, especially when I want to leave the straps on them. I have contacted both Urban horse where they came from and scoots. To my mind these joiners are not fit for purpose and I am hoping they are going to replace them with new ones. On the U tube videos of putting them on you can squeeze the joiner easily with your fingers and so it is easy to get the second strap through. On mine the joiner is so hard and rigid it won't squeeze at all.

You only have to do it the once the first time you put the straps on. You leave the slider on the strap, both ends of the mud strap on the lower fastener, slide it down to the lower fastener strap, and stick the hoof through the mud strap as you put the boot on. Slide it back down as you take the boot off. I've had mine on for a year and never taken them off from the boots. Hell, if I was trying to do it every day with my wriggly devil I'd have pulled my hair out. Try some pliers if you still can't get it through, but once it's through don't take it out again! Just be careful the mud straps don't slip off the end of the lower fastener as you are putting the boot on but if you are careful that won't happen.

thanks but I can't get the foot through the circle of the mud strap that way, the circle is too small. If I could I can see they would be so easy to use. I am putting them on (or not!) the way it shows in the videos, ie strap around back of boot, joiner over one strap and that strap left on the bottom fastener permanently, put foot in and then thread other strap through the joiner.

Maybe get the next size up. The first ones I got were a bit short for mine and I ended up cutting the sliders in half crossways and that gave me room to get the hoof through, they worked fine with the half length slider. Got the next size up after that and they were better.

thanks, I had wondered about cutting them in half but wasn't sure if they would work. I had to get the next size up. I ordered 3 sizes each relevant to different boot sizes. All 3 were the wrong size, each boot needed the next size up. My horses only have normal size legs (not thick cart horse ones). I was surprised the sizing was so far out.

I am just hoping if I persevere they will keep the boots on in mud. I shall be disappointed if they pull off after all this effort. :D Thanks for your help.

Mine has normal legs too, think their sizing is off. I've never had a boot come off in mud since using them though I keep the normal straps on too.
