Hello!

Further to my post a couple of weeks ago, I have finally managed to pin a vet down on the phone!

I understood that a horse could be scoped for ulcers, but after speaking to the vets about my horse's recurring nosebleed (one nostril only, not a lot of blood, stops after 2 or 3 mins- had 4 in 5 weeks now) they would be interested in scoping to try and find the cause.

What is likely to be happen? Would he be ridden under scope or just left in the stable and looked at (I understand he will be sedated).

I am slightly concerned because he is slightly headshy (though much better now) but still has a habit of trying to beat up the EDT, so the last thing I want him to do it to take his temper out on very expensive equipment, or very expensive vet!

Any help is much appreciated!

(also in Vet.)

It would be usual for the horse to be sedated.

But your vet will be able to explain the procedure to you.

My mare had a scope recently becaue of her nosebleeds, i was worried like you are as she doesnt trust anyone and will hurt you if you annoy her ha! We did it in her stable near the door once she was sedated and completely relaxed he loosened her headcollar and i cant remember whether he put a special one on or just usd hers but he got a bit of rope and tied it to the top of the stable door (the bar) to lift her head up she was ok with this with a lot of encouragement! he then scoped her and told me there was nothing wrong and that she must be bursting a bloodvessel due to her nervous nature. She wasnt stressed after or bothered at all :)
