Can anyone tell me approx how much it would be to have this done? A reply to a thread about feeding a TB in NL made me wonder if my TB would have them, I suspect the answer to be yes, although he is a very very easy and laid back little soul except for when he is being ridden...:p

We had our boy scoped and think it was about £100 but total treatment came to more than that as they found Ulcers and the medication (GastroGuard) is very expensive. Although the treatment is expensive it has made a big difference to our horse, in his behaviour in the stable and under saddle. He is a much happier horse now so worth the money.

Thanks for the reply, I feared that might be the case! I'm not quite sure whether to have it done or not, but I will give it some thought :)

hi to look for ulcers they have to go into the stomach, its classed as a gstroscopy, my horse is having to this done and my vets quoted me £200! It was £100 for a endoscope, just the throat! But obviously each vets is deifferent! My insuracne covers both of these tho so you could get around it if you got insurance! ring your insurance company up and ask if they cover it on your policy. and your vets should be able to find out how much it costs for a gastroscopy and then you'll be able to seriously think about if its worth it, least you'll know how much it costs! hope that helps XxEmmaxX

It was def a gastroscopy that my boy had and the porcedure itself was only £100 or little bit more. I guess all practises do have varying price structures so maybe I'm just lucky it was realtively cheap. The vet did find ulcers and have to say that I am glad I went ahead as he is a happier horse for having the treatment. Fortunately I'm insured as the cost of the medication did make me baulk!!

Holy s*** I have just googled it and seen the cost of Gastrogard :eek::eek::eek:

Sufficient unto the day I think, and I will be definitely speaking to my insurance company first if and when the day comes :o:o

Increasing forage intake and turnout has been linked to helping with ulcers and is slightly cheaper than gastrogard so in a mild case or alongside to reduce required treatment time may well be worth it.

I'd have to look it up, but I agree with the £ 200 ish. That was without an overnight stay though.

By the time we had finished with a few courses of Gastroguard, progress gastroscopies and Pro Soothe it cost around £ 2800.

I have to say it's the best £2,800 (my insurers) ever spent.

I have a totally different horse now.

Mine has just had a scope and the bill was £150 then gastrogard at £173 a box of 7 shes on her second time around on gastrogard first time bill came to £900. Best money the insurance company have every spent!
