Scotland and changes to trail hunting

Hi all,

Just curious how the ammendments/licencing situation for Scottish trail hunting laws has affected Scottish foxhound packs?

Have most packs disbanded or are they still welcoming a field?

Just trying to anticipate what may happen in England and Wales when our trail hunting laws are inevitably tightened too .

The big two have completely disbanded. Have heard that a few more are investing in bloodhounds and changing to drag/clean boot hunting.

That is sad but good to see that some are trying to find a way forward - it is the hounds I feel sorry for as the antis seem to have no comprehension of what will happen to them once hunting finishes .

Oh I think they do, however is it any worse than what happens to them now? ie a bullet in the head when they are too old, too slow or just dont want to hunt.

I doubt whether anyone is under any illusion about what happens to the hounds which, incidently, is no different to what would happen to them under normal circumstances.

Hounds are not pets and it’s foolish to compare them to a pet cockerpoo living out a lengthy retirement.

There is no order to destroy redundant hunt hounds, that decision is down to the hunts themselves. Foxhounds are not going on the banned breed list, even in Scotland.

The hounds could be kept on in kennels as they are every year in the off season in summer mode, being exercised each day. The numbers would gradually go down through old age, so this would only need to be done for a few years. There is no external requirement for hounds to be destroyed by the hunts who profess to love and value them as long as they are useful.

10-15 years maybe. As I said, they aren’t pets.
