scouring foal

Summer had a lot of seditive on thursday so a plastic shoe could be fitted. Though she is totally over it and full of beans it has played havec with her guts. I,m trying yeasac in some chaff and she is trying to help herself by eating mums poo is there anything else i could try. Luckly she is eating and drinking well just very,very messy, not good on a white bottom.

ProKolin is good, I give it to my foals if they scour for longer than a couple of days.

I feel your pain! Lola still gets bouts of runny poo even weeks after she recovered from her clostridium infection. It seems like the smallest thing upsets her wee tummy now though she's fighting fit in herself. A white bum covered in poop is never a good look! It doesn't seem to last more than a couple of days at a time tho so haven't had to give her anything. x

Isn't Panaur a make of wormer? The base of Pancur is Fenbendazole but I believe it is an Ivermectin based wormer that is recommended so something like EQVALAN or ERAQUEL.

I use intelligent Worming and my foal program uses Eraquel at 4 weekly intervals starting at 4 weeks followed by Double Pyrantal at the start of October (for tape worms I believe)

I can highly recommend sudocream as a great barrier against scours...also makes it much easier to wash off without striping thier coat

With worming always read the packet regarding foals please.

PM Druid on here...She told me a remedy with peptobismol but I can't remember it! Re: the Yeasacc...Alltech the company that make that also make a great supplement called Lifeforce which has more minerals and you may find it more beneficial than just the Yeasacc

30ml Peptobismol, 30ml Phytonprotect (or other liquid Kaolin clay), 10ml Antepsin all in a 60ml dosing syringe. 2 x daily until it dries up. Alternatively Diarsanyl works well

thanks druid + everyone looks like a trip to the chemist tomorrow, it is probably stress from sedation scours but will look to get worm count checked. she is probably getting a free vet visit tomorrow as they are putting a calander together and asked if i minded summer being in it. It will have to be a non bottom view!!

We find Actimel or similar works really well for our foalies. We also used it last year too and within 48 hours they were pooing normally again. Our filly got a really sore fanny too so we used dilute hibiscrub to clean up and then Vaseline to protect.
