My 28 year old welsh cob has had itchy ears for several years ( only occurring over summer months). However this year seems to be particularly bad, he has already made himself bleed on the inside and outside of his ears. It has got the point that I cant bring him into the yard as all he will do is scratch! He wears a fly mask and has fly spray on. The vet came last week and gave him an injection and some ointment- thinking it was mites. However this seems to have had no effect. She suggested the next step was a steroid injection- not keen on this due to risks. Does anyone have any other suggestions/ advice. Horse is fairly good at letting me touch his ears.
